GOMBAK: Batu Dam is structurally safe, said Gombak district officer Datuk Nor Hisham Dahlan.

Denying rumours over the social media of cracks appearing at the dam, Nor Hisham said the technical department did not find cracks on the dam's wall as claimed.

"The technical department checked the structure last night (Thursday) at 11pm. They found the structure to be safe and water levels at 104.6m," he added. The water level reduced to 103.1m on Friday.

He said the rumour which went viral was sent out at 10pm Thursday and caused panic among residents.

The rumour claimed that the Selangor government had released water from the dam following a sudden rise in water levels and work was being carried out to patch up obvious cracks on its walls.

Nor Hisham urged everyone to verify claims sent through the social media before spreading the them.
