GEORGE TOWN: A DAP Member of Parliament here has called for Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) to be banned if the country wants to move forward.
Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik said that organisations like Isma should not be allowed to exist and should be deregistered immediately.
He was referring to Isma activist Abu Ameen’s statement in an online portal in which he reportedly said that Malays should not wish Christians “Merry Christmas” or celebrate with them.
Ng, who was at a Christmas party for the Salvation Army in Prangin Mall on Tuesday night, said that to prohibit the greeting of “Merry Christmas” to others was another kind of extremism.
“To bring the country forward, we need to respect each other and move forward from the politicising of religion. Imposing your narrow perspective onto other races or religion was uncalled for,” he said.
