Indonesian tour leader gets death for drug trafficking

GEORGE TOWN: An Indonesian woman received the death sentence for trafficking in more than 1.6kg of methamphetamine last year.

The 33-year-old, only known as Yunita, cried uncontrollably when the decision was read out by Judicial Commissioner Datuk Nordin Hassan.

Nordin ruled that the prosecution had succeeded in proving a case beyond reasonable doubt.

Yunita, who worked as a religious tour leader leader in Indonesia, was found guilty of trafficking in 1,668.3gm of the drugs at the Penang International Airport arrival hall at 9.30pm on July 9, last year.

The offence carries the mandatory death sentence under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
