Malaysian police arresting a football fan during the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014 first leg semi-final football match between Malaysia and Vietnam at the Shah Alam Stadium in Shah Alam

PUTRAJAYA: Khairy Jamaluddin is optimistic there will be no recurrence of the incident where foreign football fans were attacked by a few locals during the upcoming 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup semi-final between Malaysia and Thailand at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Dec 20.

"I am confident the police and FAM (Football Association of Malaysia) will tighten security after this. If the supporters see others acting in a violent manner, calm them down. Everyone has to play their role," said the Youth and Sports Minister.
