SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested nine people over hooligan acts after Malaysia’s match against Vietnam in the AFF Suzuki Cup first-leg semi-final here.

They were among 15 people sought for attacking Vietnamese supporters after the end of the match in which Malaysia lost 1-2.

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said they were arrested in a series of sweeps in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor on Thursday and yesterday.

The men, aged 19 to 29, were either picked up from their homes or stopped on the road by officers.

Yesterday, the men were hauled to a magistrate’s court here, where they were put under remand until Monday to help in investigations.

“Five were picked up in Johor and two each from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. We have identified these individuals as being part of the clash in the crowd and will extend their remand if need be.

“We are still looking for the remaining six individuals who were involved in the Sunday incident. We urge them to make things easier for everyone by coming forward to help in the investigations,” said SAC Mohd Adnan,

The men who were arrested are being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
