IEM calls for probe into mine blast


PETALING JAYA: A thorough investigation must be carried out to determine whether the coal mine in Sarawak had adequate safety and prevention measures in place, said the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM).

In reference to the coal mine explosion which killed three people and injured 29 others in Sri Aman last week, IEM said in a statement that it was crucial to find out whether the mine had in place early gas and fire detection and control systems in accordance to standard engineering procedures.
