Report: Plans in place to implement real-time tracking system for airliners

PETALING JAYA: Governments and aviation industry officials are planning to announce global standards calling for airliners to report their position automatically every 15 minutes, according to The Wall Street Journal citing industry insiders. 

In an article on Tuesday, it said that in the case of emergencies where airliners veer off their flight paths, the United Nations-backed expert group wants authorities to be able to get minute-by-minute updates of the positions of these airliners.
