PETALING JAYA: Political parties criticised plans to establish a new Syariah Court, saying it was unconstitutional to have one with the same jurisdiction as the civil Federal Court.
Gerakan Central Law and Human Rights Bureau chairman Baljit Singh objected to a proposal being discussed by the Government and the state Islamic religious councils to add two levels to the Islamic legal system, which would give it federal authority.
