KOTA KINABALU: With her dying breath, Hamida Laka, the victim of a brutal stabbing told her brother and a friend who her attacker was.
Hours later, police detained a 25-year-old man, the one she had named just before she died.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the 29-year-old woman was found at around 3.30pm Wednesday with multiple injuries to her chest and back at the Kampung Mesilau farm in Kundasang, about 93km from here.
Jalaluddin said Hamida was rushed to the Ranau Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at about 5.10pm.
“Before she died, she managed to tell her brother and his friend the name of the perpetrator,” he said.
“Apparently, it was her boyfriend.”
Jalaluddin said following a police report lodged by Hamida’s family, they picked up the suspect not far from the crime scene at around 6.40pm.
However, he said, the man denied he had anything to do with the stabbing.
Police have detained him for questioning under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the mandatory death sentence.
Jalaluddin said: “Police believe the motive for the murder was jealousy.”
