> China Press reported on a claim by a father of a five-year-old girl that his daughter was treated harshly in her kindergarten at Kemayan, Pahang. The man alleged that a teacher hit his daughter’s hand with a cane and slapped her whenever she was slow in learning.

The 34-year-old father said he confronted the teacher after his daughter came home with a swollen cheek. He claimed that the teacher did not show any remorse and insisted her actions were necessary.

The man said he was not against corporal punishment, but was concerned that the harsh treatment could traumatise his daughter and affect her psychologically.

> Nanyang Siang Pau reported that a man who was electrocuted while stealing cables at a Tenaga Nasional Berhad substation in Malacca last Monday had died of multiple organ failure at the hospital.
