PETALING JAYA: In the post-war years, MCA founder Tun Tan Cheng Lock was hailed as a great unifying force among Malayan Chinese.
Born in 1883, Tan was a fifth-generation Baba Chinese from a family of traders and shipowners, but the teacher would later make his fortune through ventures in rubber planting, banking and insurance.
