MORE women are now found abusing an arthritis drug for abortion, as it could terminate pregnancy within less than 12 hours, reported Harian Metro.

In an incident on Monday, a 21-year-old private higher learning institution student was believed to have taken celecoxib pills, which is usually used to treat arthritis and menstrual cramps, to abort her baby conceived outside of marriage.

According to a police source, the student’s college mate and their dormitory warden found the foetus at the premises in Puchong.

“The student had earlier told her college mate that she had a mild stomach ache on the day of the incident. She was later rushed to the Putrajaya Hospital for further treatment.

“The college mate was informed by the nurse that her friend just had an abortion,” said the source.

The friend then looked through the student’s mobile phone and found the exchange of messages between the student and her boyfriend explaining that she had aborted the baby and placed it inside a plastic bag.

“The student’s friend rushed back to the dormitory and found a black plastic bag containing the foetus inside a laundry basket,” said the source.

The hostel management then lodged a police report at the Bukit Puchong police station.

“Based on initial investigation, four tablets of celecoxib were believed to have been used to abort the baby,” said the source.
