SEPANG: Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek recently tried the Free User Trial (FUT) Wi-Fi service during his AirAsia flight from Miri to Kuala Lumpur.

AirAsia said in a statement Tuesday that the minister was impressed and surprised with the availability of the Wi-Fi service designed to provide affordable low-cost internet connectivity for AirAsia guests.

"He personally informed other guests via the flight's PA system. Sixty Wi-Fi access tokens, provided free to guests during the FUT period, were quickly snapped up within 10 minutes.

"It was the highest rate of take up ever since the FUT was introduced," the statement added.

The statement said the two-month long FUT Wi-Fi service in AirAsia flights is available now until end of October 2014.

"Up to 60 guests on selected flights will be able to test and evaluate the on-board Wi-Fi service for free. With a quota of 1MB each, guests will enjoy a special package which will allow them to chat via LINE, Whatsapp and WeChat.

"Guests will be informed via an in-flight announcement if the aircraft they boarded is equipped with on-board Wi-Fi capability," the statement added.- Bernama
