GEORGE TOWN: A policewoman has lodged a report after several semi-nude pictures purportedly of her surfaced in the internet and smart phone application, whatsApp.

Penang police deputy chief, Datuk A. Thaiveegan, said the victim, in her 20's, lodged the report after discovering the pictures were circulated via whatsApp and on social media in the past few days.

"She was alerted of the matter after being informed by a woman colleague," he told Bernama here.

He said police, with the cooperation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, would conduct a detailed investigation into the case.

"We have not verified whether the pictures were that of the policewoman or otherwise, as there are various possibilities, they may have been altered using the latest technology and so on," he added.

He said police would determine the actual motive for circulating the pictures as the policewoman had not been subjected to blackmail.
