TUMPAT: A man, whom PAS alleged to be a phantom voter from Thailand, is a Malaysian who had cast his vote, said state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mazlan Lazim.

“The alleged phantom voter is a Malaysian citizen who had carried out his responsibility by casting his vote in SK Bendang Pak Yong.

"There is no issue of phantom voter as claimed by Juham (PAS’ legal and human rights bureau).

“Investigations on the individual did not show he was a Thai national. The issue of phantom voters did not arise,” Mazlan said via a text message sent out to reporters.

He was responding to reports that Juham director Noorazmir Zakaria claimed to have caught a phantom voter.

A report was made by PAS' election staff at the Bendang Pak Yong polling station at noon on Thursday.

The Pengkalan Kubor constituency has a large community of Malaysians of Thai descent mostly residing in Bendang Pak Yong.

Pengkalan Kubor is a border town that lies on the northernmost tip of Kelantan bordering Tak Bai in southern Thailand.
