JOHOR BARU: After the brouhaha over last week's "fake" Causeway toll rates, the Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Friday produced a statement detailing the new rates to start on Oct 1.

And the new rates posted by LTA on its website today turned out to be the same as that in the "fake release" which the social media published on Sept 5 and which the LTA had denied.

The LTA said it had been a long standing policy for Singapore to match the toll set by Malaysia at the Causeway and Second Link.

The new rates will see all motorists except motorcyclists paying toll as they enter and leave Singapore. Currently, motorists are only tolled as they leave Singapore.

The toll charges for cars will increase from SGD1.20 (RM3.03) to a total of SGD6.50 (RM16.44) while the charges for vans and light goods vehicles from SGD1.90 (RM4.81) to SGD9.80 (RM24.79).

The charges for heavy goods vehicles will go up from SGD2.60 (RM6.58) to SGD13.00 (RM32.88).

Taxis will have to fork out a total of SGD3.30 (RM8.35) instead of the current SGD0.60 (RM1.52) while busses will have to pay a total of SGD5.30 (RM13.40) instead of the current SGD1.00 (RM2.53).
