IPOH: A total of 1.07 billion units of Amanah Saham Bumiputra 2 (ASB2) have been taken up by 53,345 subscribers since its launch on April 2.
Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) president and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said although the figure appeared to be only 10% of the total 10 billion units made available up until Aug 15, it was a significant improvement compared to previous funds launched.
“If you compare with bumiputra funds launched previously, it took years to achieve sales of one billion units.
“But this time, it has only taken us three months to do so, which shows that there is increased awareness among bumiputras on the need to invest their money,” he told reporters after the state-level launch of ASB2 here yesterday.
Hamad Kama Piah said the change in mindset towards savings and investing was in part due to an aggressive approach by PNB.
“We conduct free seminars on investment 365 days a year.
“No other organisation but PNB does this because we believe savings and investments have far-reaching and lasting results that will benefit the bumiputra community,” he said.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who launched the event, said Perak hoped to improve its standing in terms of equity in all funds launched by Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd to date.
“We are at the sixth position in terms of funds ownership although with the state’s population, we should be doing better,” said Dr Zambry.
PNB has issued a total of 187.46 billion units to 12.02 million subscribers in three decades.
