KUANTAN: A married woman was found dead with a gunshot wound on the chest at the family home in Raub Friday.

The body of the 42-year-old was found in a room at the house in Taman Sentosa when her parents and husband returned from an outing.

A shotgun and cartridge shells were found near the body in the 5.45pm incident. The deceased's mother contacted the police.

Initial police investigations revealed there was no foul play.

Pahang CID chief Datuk Zakaria Ahmad said the shotgun belonged to the victim's father.

"We believe the woman was struck by a shot which she had fired. Nevertheless, investigations are underway to determine the cause of death.

"We believe the woman was alone when the shot was fired. There was no sign of forced entry into the house and no valuables or cash were reported missing," he told Bernama.

He said the body was sent to the Raub Hospital. - Bernama
