ALOR SETAR: A make-up artist was acquitted and discharged by the High Court here yesterday on a charge of trafficking in 82.4gm of drugs two years ago.
Judicial Commissioner Datuk Mohd Zaki Abd Wahab freed Nor Azren Azmiera Abd Rahman, 22, after finding her not guilty of the charge, but ordered her friends, Md Nasir Md Sahimi, 35, and car cleaner Md Mazwan Abd Aziz, 34, to enter their defence.
They were charged with trafficking in 33.8gm of heroin and 48.6gm of monoacetylmorphine in front of a fastfood restaurant in Jalan Teoh Moh Soo, Kulim at 1.15am on June 14, 2012.
The offence carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
In the judgment, Mohd Zaki said the drugs were found in a car driven by Md Nasir, who is the first accused.
He said when the arrest was made, the second accused, Md Mazwan, and third accused, Nor Azren Azmiera, were also in the car.
“Based on the witness’ evidence, the court finds the prosecution has succeeded in establishing that the first and second accused had in their possession and the joint intention to traffic in the drugs.”
The court set Sept 21 for Md Nasir and Md Mazwan to enter their defence. — Bernama
