GEORGE TOWN: There is a possibility that Pakatan Rakyat could break-up as a result of the Selangor Mentri Besar crisis, says Balik Pulau MP Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya.

Dr Hilmi said there were already signs of a split within PAS when a majority of the party members expressed support for Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to stay on as Selangor Mentri Besar while there were some who were not in favour of the majority’s decision.

The most apparent difference in opinion emerged when PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang expressed his support for Khalid to remain as MB when his deputy Mohamad Sabu and the party’s information chief Mahfuz Omar openly supported a decision made by the PR presidential council to replace Khalid.

“There is a possibility of a split. In politics nothing is impossible and anything can happen. We will wait and see,” said Hilmi. who is also the Deputy Health Minister after a Hari Raya Aidilfitri, dinner on Monday night which was also attended by the Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and his wife Toh Puan Majimor Shariff.

Hilmi was commenting on concerns expressed by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng that the Selangor MB crisis may lead to a split of the opposition coalition.

Lim was reported as saying that when a decision made by the PR presidential council is negated by one party within PR, the pact’s credibility and survival comes under threat. – Bernama
