Najib congratulates new Indonesian president

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is confident that Indonesia will continue to prosper under the leadership of Joko Widowo and his running mate Jusuf Kalla.

Najib also congratulated the two leaders for their victory in the republic's presidential election which was held last July 9.

"With the existing close relationship and cooperation between the two countries, I am confident bilateral ties between Malaysia and Indonesia will continue to be further strengthened for peace and prosperity of our countries and people," he said in a statement.

Widowo, the governor of Jakarta, and Jusuf Kalla won by obtaining 70,990,832 votes or 53.15 per cent of the total 133,567,276 votes.

Their rival, Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, Hatta Rajasa, garnered 46.85 per cent of the votes. - Bernama
