SEMPORNA: The attack on the marine police unit at Pulau Mabul, which led to the death of a marine corporal and the abduction of his colleague, has once again brought into focus the prevalent use of the “pump boat” and the repeated calls for a ban or restriction on the use of the craft.
Security officials believe these water pump-propelled boats had been used in various cross-border crimes in Sabah’s east coast, from smuggling to kidnapping.
