TNB: Beware of bill payment syndicate

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has reminded the public to be wary of electricity bill syndicate members who claim to be private payment agents.

Its senior general manager (Customer Service), Kamaliah Abdul Kadir, said TNB
never appointed individuals as private agents to collect payment of electricity bills from consumers.

"We want to remind consumers to be wary of tactics used by syndicate members
to collect bill payment," she said in a statement.

She said TNB provides payment channels at customer service centres, online, financial institutions, government departments and agencies and third parties.

"TNB payment collection agents do not contact or approach consumers for payment of electricity bills."

TNB's agents only receive cash payment (payment counters, kiosks and cash deposit machines), direct debit credit card (online, autopay, phone banking) and iDebit (online, autopay, direct debit, phone banking, ATM machine).

"Consumers will only be contacted by TNB debt collection agents if they have arrears of electricity bills but are not required to make payment to them."

Kamaliah said the collection agents do not receive payment by cheque and bank draft.
