KUALA LUMPUR: Four teenagers were nabbed by the police after attempting to hold up a 24-hour convenience store.
The boys, aged between 17 and 19, entered the store at Tun Hussein Onn in Cheras armed with three machetes at around 3.30am on Wednesday.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said they brandished their weapons at the two employees who were on duty at the time.
One of the workers ran into the storeroom and quickly contacted the police.
“Fortunately there were policemen patrolling the area.
“They rushed to the convenience store and managed to apprehend all four teenagers,” he added.
ACP Ab Rashid said the boys were about to flee scene on two motorcycles belonging to their respective fathers.
“We confiscated the getaway vehicles and instructed the teenagers to undergo a urine test.
“They all tested negative for drug use,” he added.
ACP Ab Rashid advised parents to monitor their children’s whereabouts in an effort to prevent them from dabbling in criminal activities.
“Be especially wary if your children have a tendency to go out late at night as they may be mixing with the wrong crowd,” he said.
The case is being probed under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery.
