Fireman killed in accident after fighting bushfire in Pekan Nanas

PONTIAN: A fireman was killed and another injured when a lorry crashed into them just after they had finished the day fighting a bushfire in Pekan Nanas.

Mohd Taufik Ali, 22, and Suboh Abdullah, 45, were with other firemen who were packing their equipment after putting out the fire along Batu 29 in Pengkalan Raja at about 3.50pm on Saturday.

Mohd Taufik and Suboh were standing at the right side of their fire engine when the lorry smashed into them. Mohd Taufik died at the scene.

Several firemen, who were packing their equipment at the other side of fire engine, escaped unhurt.

One of the firemen said the lorry appeared "out of nowhere" and smashed into the side where his collegues were

It is learnt that Mohd Taufik joined the Pekan Nanas station a year ago.
