Cops score hattrick against bookies and gamblers


JOHOR BARU: Police scored a hattrick against illegal gambling on FIFA World Cup matches with 56 suspects detained so far in three states – Johor, Selangor and Pahang.

In Johor, police detained 31 suspects believed to be involved in illegal betting valued at some RM1.05mil. Johor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said more than 300 individuals had been checked in 105 raids conducted under Ops Soga since June 13 when the football extravaganza kicked off in Brazil.
