JOHOR BARU: Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin denied claims by certain parties that he is unable to "advice" and "control" the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

In his latest posting on Facebook, Khaled said as mentri mesar, his role was to advise the ruler, who respected him as administrator of the Johor state government.

"I also know that there are parties who say that I am unable to advise and control the sultan, especially in land administrative matters. This is not true," he said.

He said his duties were not to monitor the activities of the Johor Sultan but to advise him.

Khaled said history would show whether he was unable to advise the sultan and if he had looked after the interests of the people.

"As the elected leader of the people, there is nothing I should worry about as long as I haven't done anything bad to the people of Johor," he said.

He also denied charges which said the sultan interfered in the state's administration and described those accusations as "not true at all".

"Tuanku is someone who cares deeply about the state government and Johor but ever since I became mentri besar, he has never interfered in its administration," he said.

According to him, the close relationship with the sultan was the basis for him giving advice without fear or favour.

On the Johor Housing and Real Property Board (LPHJ), Khaled revealed that the sultan was disappointed with the negative perception of him that came out of the issue.

The perception and accusations which claimed that the enactment contravened the principle of Constitutional Monarchy was not true as the contents of the original draft of the amendment to the enactment was in line with the Johor State Constitution 1895.

"It should be remembered that Johor was the pioneer state which practises the system of Constitutional Monarchy in this country. The Johor Sultanate has existed since 1885. The Ruler plays the role of check-and-balance in a country," he said. - Bernama
