NGO: Repeal law on destitute folk

PETALING JAYA: A non-governmental organisation that deals with the homeless community in Kuala Lumpur is calling for an immediate repeal of the Destitute Persons Act (DPA), which it describes as a “punitive instrument – both in premise and implementation”.

Food Not Bombs strongly objects to the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry’s plan to amend the DPA to ensure stricter enforcement and harsher punishment against those found to be begging.
