PETALING JAYA: Calling on the Selangor State Assembly to reject a motion to debate hudud law, Selangor MCA chief Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai said the debate on the matter would be a waste of time.

“I urge Selangor state Speaker Hannah Yeoh to reject the motion by Selangor Umno to debate on the possibility of implementing hudud law in the state as it is not important and a waste of time for the assemblymen,” Lim said in a statement.

He was responding to a statement by Yeoh that the motion, which was submitted by Selangor Umno, would be debated during the current sitting.

Acknowledging that although the right to debate the motion was in line with the principles of democracy, Lim argued that the debate would not serve its purpose for the wellbeing of Selangor residents but instead incur unnecessary costs.

Lim added that focus should instead be on issues concerning welfare which are more important and should be prioritised.

“Although the DAP repeatedly tries to blame MCA and demand that MCA state our stand over this (hudud), the fact is that since both DAP and PAS hold 15 seats each, they both play an important role. DAP especially, should be responsible over this issue as the people are looking to them to resolve this,” he said.
