GEORGE TOWN: Scrap metal collectors are cutting into the livelihoods of about 4,500 fishermen as they recover it from sunken ships in the vicinity of Pulau Betong near here over the past month.
Pulau Betong state assemblyman Muhamad Farid Saad said the collection of scrap metal had reduced the fishermen's catch in the area, although it was not known whether such activity was legitimate or otherwise.
