KUALA LUMPUR: A man was gunned down while five others were wounded in a suspected gang-related shooting incident at a restaurant near Jalan Ipoh here.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan said that all six victims were having breakfast at the restaurant when the drive-by shooting happened between 4.30am and 5am on Saturday.
"Initial investigations revealed that a man alighted from a Perodua Myvi and fired seven shots at the victims using a semi-automatic gun.
"A driver was waiting for him in the car. They fled the scene after the shooting," he said.
According to ACP Zakaria, police have yet to ascertain the number of people in the car and are currently in the midst of identifying the vehicle's registration number.
"The victims, aged between 22 and 51, were rushed to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.
"A 38-year-old victim was pronounced dead on arrival while the others were admitted into the Emergency Unit," he said.
Police retrieved seven bullet casings from the scene and are investigating possible motives behind the assassination attempt.
No arrest has been made.
The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
