KUALA LUMPUR: MCA should not be hasty in its decision to review its position in Barisan Nasional if Umno supports the implementation of hudud by PAS in Kelantan, says Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said the statement by MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong was based on assumptions while the government had not made any decision on the matter.

"Umno itself has made a stand that it accepts hudud as God's law but we are studying its implementation that is proposed by PAS," he said after presenting the Titiwangsa Education Foundation's Awards for Excellence 2014 to 324 students.

Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, urged MCA not to make any statement or decision that could sour relations between the two component parties.

On the request from MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon to meet with Umno Youth over the hudud issue, Khairy said he had asked Umno Youth exco member Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahya to meet with MCA Youth.

"We want all the BN component parties to understand each other and this matter (implementation of hudud) is not being pursued by BN but by PAS," he added. - Bernama
