KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) clarified that the selection of water rationing areas was not based on the socio-economic status of consumers.

Its corporate communications and public affairs assistant general manager, Priscilla Alfred Dharan, said the selection was based on the technical considerations of the distribution system.

"Exceptions are only made to certain areas which have been specifically excluded by the National Water Service Commission, namely the Putrajaya Federal Government administration centre, Selangor Government administration centre and the Kuala Lumpur city centre.

"It also covers the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Subang Airport, Port Klang free trade zone, government and private hospitals, dialysis centres and the Salahuddin Abdul Aziz power station in Kapar," she said in a statement.

She also reminded residents not to carry out illegal activities and break the law to obtain water by vandalising the distribution pipe system as it could cause depletion of large amounts of water, thus worsening the water supply problem.

Members of the public who are still unclear on the water rationing plan can visit the www.syabas.com.my website for more information. - Bernama
