Karpal Singh: A determined leader and committed advocate, says Najib

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak paid tribute to Karpal Singh saying he was shocked to hear of the death of the DAP veteran leader.

“I am shocked to hear of YB Karpal Singh’s tragic passing.

“In a career that spanned five decades, Karpal’s abilities made him a formidable opponent,” said Najib on his official Facebook page.

He added that in politics, Karpal was an implacable leader, while in law, he was a committed advocate.

“At this difficult time, our thoughts are with the families of those who have died in the accident. I extend my deepest condolences to them.

“We pray that the other passengers make a full recovery,” he said.

Earlier, as soon as he got news of the accident, Najib expressed his condolences via his Twitter account.

"I have just landed at Ankara when I heard the news that YB Karpal Singh died in a road accident. My condolences to the family," he tweeted.

Karpal was killed when the car he was travelling in collided with a five-tonne lorry near Gua Tempurung on the North South Expressway on Thursday morning
