MH370 crash: Lim Lip Eng retracts remark, expresses regret

PETALING JAYA: DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng has retracted a callous remark which he made at a press conference on Friday morning.

The press conference was on an unrelated topic but Lim courted controversy by saying "make one of DAP’s leaders the commander of the air force or navy, then we will find MH370," a statement he now regrets.

“I made that comment in my own capacity and was not representing DAP,” said Lim who is MP for Segambut.

“I wish to retract that comment. Please accept my deep regret for having made that comment,” he told The Star Online.

MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the statement was uncalled for and it was not the time to joke of such things.

“I think Lim Lip Eng understands the severity of how foolish his statement was,” he said in response to the retraction.

“He should not simply assume things or belittle anyone. If the opposition was in power it would be the same military personnel who would conduct the search and rescue operation.”

Dr Wee said whether one is from the ruling or opposition party is irrelevant as any and all professional advice on the search is welcomed.

“Now is not the time for a political divide but for our whole country to be united,” he said.
