RM10mil for Kajang Hospital upgrade

KAJANG: The Kajang Hospital will receive a federal allocation of RM10mil as a short term measure to upgrade its facilities.

In announcing the allocation, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said they were also looking at constructing a completely new facility at a cost of over RM800mil in a nearby location to replace the current hospital building.

“One of the requests raised by the hospital management was for the hospital to be transferred and to have a new building constructed, but this will cost between RM800mil and RM1bil.

“I will raise this matter to the Finance Ministry and to the Economic Planning Unit,” he told a press conference here yesterday after a meeting with hospital staff and specialists.

Dr Subramaniam, however, stressed that the announcement had nothing to do with the impending Kajang by-election.

He said the allocation was meant for reducing congestion in the emergency ward, purchasing better equipment and improve its wiring system.

The hospital will also be receiving 35 more beds to its existing 326 beds.
