PETALING JAYA: Planning for a beach holiday? There is no need to look far as TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, has ranked the Malaysian island of Langkawi as number 10 among the top islands in Asia.
So pack your sunnies and bathing suit and drop by the Jewel of Kedah for a relaxing time.
Apart from claiming the 10th spot, the island, situated in the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, also drew the highest number of searches on Trip Advisor by visitors from Australia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, the United States, India, and many more.
This marks Langkawi’s second win in the last three years of the competition.
Travellers’ Choice Island winners are selected based on the quality and quantity of the most highly-rated hotels, restaurants, and attractions listed for each island on TripAdvisor gathered over a 12-month period.
Tourism and Culture minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz remarked that the recognition has come at a good time, coinciding with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.“We are truly delighted to see Langkawi, known as the legendary island paradise and home to UNESCO-endorsed Geopark, coming in at number 10 in Asia for the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Islands Awards. The award is certainly a great way to kickstart Visit Malaysia Year 2014,” he said.
