KUALA LUMPUR: All Malaysians must be careful with their words and deeds so national harmony will not be jeopardised, said MCA president, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

Commenting on the controversial video clip by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Liow said the kind of satire portrayed was a poor fit for the culture and value here.

Calling on the people to promote noble values during festivities, Liow added that it was irresponsible to cause tension by politicising the festivity for political mileage.

His deputy, Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, said Kok’s Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014 video clip was unbecoming and not in line with Chinese culture.

“Chinese tradition demands that we do not disparage or run down others, even political rivals, during Chinese New Year,” said Dr Wee, after launching MagnumCare’s Chinese New Year ang pow contributions to charitable homes here yesterday.

He described the video as insensitive, immature and a waste of time.
