KUCHING: The body of the sole missing passenger of a boat that capsized in Sungai Sian was found at noon.

Search and rescue crew found the body of Kenny Bisa, 28, around 50m from where the boat overturned and sank on Friday. According to Bintangor district police chief ACP Mohd Hafifi, the body is being brought to Sarikei Hospital.

An eyewitness told reporters on Sunday that Kenny was swept away by strong currents after struggling to save his relative, who could not swim.

There were 18 onboard the boat that was meant only for 12 people. Those onboard were on their way home after attending a funeral in rural Sarawak.

The boat was carrying passengers to Kampung Sungai Sian, a village located across the river from Bintangor town, when it capsized about five minutes after leaving the jetty.

The rescued passengers were believed to have been picked up by a barge, which was passing by at the time of the mishap.
