Man seriously injured in drive-by shooting, friend arrested

NIBONG TEBAL: A man was shot in Jawi and his friend, who was earlier waiting with him, has been arrested.

The 40-year-old victim was waiting with the suspect in front of a house in Taman Sintar Indah when a car with two men stopped near them at about 5.20pm.

"One of the men in the car fired two shots at the victim hitting him on the shoulder and left leg. His friend was unhurt.

"The incident took place so fast and the assailants fled in a Proton Wira," Penang police CID chief SAC Mazlan Kesah told reporters at the scene.

He said the victim was sent to Sungai Bakap Hospital and was reported to be stable.

Initial investigatiions showed the gunman had tailed the victim and his friend who arrived from Banting, Selangor in the morning.

SAC Mazlan said police were investigating the actual motive for the shooting.

"At the moment, police have detained the victim's friend over confusing and doubtful statements he made.

"Based on our information, the victim's friend has three criminal records involving forging documents, car theft and drugs," he said. - Bernama
