19-year-old Chinese national missing under suspicious circumstances

KUALA LUMPUR: A 19-year-old Chinese national living in Petaling Jaya with her uncle has been missing since 22 Dec 2013 under suspicious circumstances said MCA public services and complaints bureau head Datuk Seri Michael Chong.

Yan Qin Qin had arrived in Malaysia in September 2013 after her father's cousin told her he would get her a work permit so she could become a housekeeper.

However, in Sept 2013 she gave an SMS to her father, 47-year-old Yan Chong Guang, a construction worker from Hainan, begging him to take her home.

Yan sent his sister to fetch his daughter on 21 Nov 2013, but the sister, a travel agent, discovered the girl had overstayed and chose not to pay the fine.

Yan then arrived on 1 Jan 2014, only to be told his daughter had run away on 22 Dec 2014.

When his cousin said he didn't know where Qin Qin was, he approached Chong.

"I called the cousin myself," Chong told reporters at a press conference Thursday, "but he said he didn't know Yan or his daughter."

The cousin told Chong to make a police report.
