10-year-old girl raped, murdered and dumped into river


SIBU: The case of the 10-year-old girl who was reported drown near Rumah Belinsing in Sungai Naman 2 on Jan 1 took another turn when it was revealed that she had actually been raped and murdered before her body was dumped into the river.

A 37-year man had at 10.22am on Jan 1 lodged a police report at the central police station that his 10-year-old niece identified as Britney Clement had been missing since 10pm on Dec 31.

At 11.50am on Jan 1, the police team received information from the public over a discovery the body of a girl near the longhouse.

At that time the police had classified the case as sudden death.

A post-mortem on the girl's body at 11am on Friday by pathologist, Dr Jamil of the Sibu Hospital showed that there were slight abrasions on the girl's private part.

A police team led by senior investigating officer, ASP Yeoh Chun Shyan went to the longhouse on Friday to interview the family members of the victim.

The police were told that the victim was a good swimmer.

The police team then proceeded to the crime scene and conducted interviews on residents of the longhouse and houses around the area.

As a result of that the police stumbled upon a 50-year old man who is staying near the deceased family's home.

The suspect was in fear when seeing the police. He was later brought to the police station for questioning.

He then admitted to raping and later killing her.

The case has been re-classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
