Man behind "overthrow government" Facebook posting remanded for five days

PETALING JAYA: Police have obtained a five-day remand order on a man over a Facebook posting that allegedly incite people to join the “Himpunan Guling Kerajaan” rally on New Year’s Eve.

It is learnt that the 25-year-old man, whose Facebook name is Asmaelz Hadzeny II, was brought to Kuala Lumpur at about 11am Friday following his arrest in Saratok, Sarawak on Thursday.

The man will be remanded until Dec 31.

Federal CID director Comm Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah had previously said the jobless man would be sent to Kuala Lumpur to assist in the investigations.

“The case is being investigated for activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy,” he said.

On Monday, police nabbed Gerakan Turun Kos Sara Hidup (Turun) chairman Azan Safar in connection with "a plot to overthrow the Government."

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar has previously labelled the “Himpunan Guling Kerajaan” (Rally to Topple the Government) a threat to national security.

He said police have taken steps to stop the gathering.
