KUALA LUMPUR: National security forces have received orders to intensify their readiness against potential attacks by terrorists in three areas in the east coast of Sabah.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the police had been carrying out various operations with the Malaysian Armed Forces, Marine, General Operations Force and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency to step up security in the areas concerned.

"Through the operations which include 'Ops Cantas Khas' led by the PDRM and 'Ops Gasak, by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), we will flush out the undesirable elements," he told reporters after attending the Conference of Police Commissioners, Police Chiefs, Commanders and Commandants at the PDRM College in Cheras here.

Khalid was asked to comment on reports of an imminent attack by militant groups on Pulau Selingan in Sandakan, Pulau Langkayan in Beluran and Sukau Resort in Kinabatangan.

Meanwhile, he said Kuala Lumpur CID former director Datuk Mat Zain Ibrahim would be called to give his statement on his claim that senior lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had filed a false affidavit in the government's appeal against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's acquittal on the second sodomy charge.

Mat Zain lodged a police report against Shafee at the Setapak police station.
