KUALA LUMPUR: MIC central working committee (CWC) member A. Prakash Rao is the party's new secretary-general and L. Sivasubramaniam, the information chief.

MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said in a statement that former strategic planning bureau deputy chief Datuk K. R. Ramanan is the new treasurer-general.

He also named seven appointed CWC members. They are Tan Sri K. Kumaran, Tan Sri K. S. Nijhar, Senator Datuk Barat Maniam, Tenggaroh assemblyman K. Ravenkumar, Datuk K. S. Balakrishnan, Raub division chief K. Tamil Selvam and Teluk Kemang MIC division chief Datuk R. Balakrishnan.

Palanivel said he would continue to head Selangor while former Perak Assembly speaker Datuk R. Ganeson would head Perak.

MIC vice-president Datuk S. Balakrishnan Sinniah will head Johor, vice-president Datuk S. Sothinathan (Negri Sembilan), Datuk M. Saravanan (Kuala Lumpur), Datuk S. Ganesan (Kedah) and M. Karupannan (Penang).

The Pahang menteri besar's special officer, Datuk R. Goonasekaren, will head the state while Datuk M. S. Mahadevan will head Malacca.

Kelantan, Perlis, Terengganu and Sabah will continue to be headed by M. Kuppusamy, S. Vengadasamy, R. Suppiah and V. Jothi, respectively.

Palanivel said the appointments of state Wanita, Youth, Puteri and Putera leaders would be done later this month.

He called on all CWC members to go to the ground and work hard, and not be complacent, following their wins or appointments.

"All state liaison chairmen should work closely with branches, divisions and grassroots members," he said, adding that Ramanan as the new treasurer-general should immediately get to work to bring in financial contribution to the party. - Bernama
