Pahang MCA members mobilised for flood relief efforts

KUANTAN: Pahang MCA members have been instructed to lend assistance to flood victims especially in badly-hit areas, said state party chairman Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said the water level in Kuantan was still high and the evacuees in relief centres here needed all the support they could get.

"I have been told by the state secretary that they do not have enough volunteers in relief efforts and so I have told our divisions to mobilise their members to help out as much as they can," said Liow after visiting the relief centre at SJK(C) Chung Ching and monitoring the situation at Kampung Baru Seri Teruntum here on Friday.

The MCA deputy president also said supplies worth RM10,000 had been donated by the party to two relief centres here.

"MCA is still very concerned about public issues such as this. When the people are troubled in difficult times, we will be there by their side," said Liow.

Liow, who is running for the party president post, also reiterated that a united and reformed MCA was his priority.

"Nobody else can save the party except for our own members. What's important now is to strenghten the party internally and re-establish our members' dignity so we can speak up with a strong voice once again," he said.
