Wanita Umno must be ready for next battle, says Shahrizat

KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno has already sounded the battle cry for the next election, calling on its members to be prepared for the challenges ahead.

Its chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil said Umno and the movement must start the work to go into what could be "father of all battles" immediately because five years - the maximum deadline before the next election - was not a long time.

"Party machinery must move from now. Do not wait for tomorrow or the day after as GE14 will be more challenging compared to the last (election).

"If the last was dubbed as mother of all battles, then the next one will be father of all battles," she said in her address at the Wanita Umno general assembly here on Wednesday.

Shahrizat said the presence of social media posed a challenge in managing politics and Wanita members must change the way they work, noting that even party leaders had fallen victim of "slanders and half-truth news" in social media.

Urging Wanita members to play their roles in defending the party and its leaders, she said Umno has allowed itself to be "politically raped" by the Opposition and rarely exposes the lies and deceptions of its enemies.

"Just because we are civilised, there are those who perceive us as weak. As mothers, we must not allow our enemies to attack us. We must be the heroines who will defend the party," she said.
