KUCHING: A woman was found killed in her house near here, an apparent victim of robbery-cum-murder.

Apart from bruises on her body, Kam Pit Chin, 58, was also strangled in the incident on Friday.

Her body was found by her unnamed sister, who reached her house in Jalan Green here at around 9.50pm.

The 60-year-old sister sometimes stayed with Kam, who was not married and lived alone, to keep her company.

The victim was believed to be gardening at the back of her house when the robbers struck as she was found still wearing a glove on her right hand.

A sickle belonging to Kam was found near the fence of the house. There was also an opening on the fence.

Police found all three rooms on the upper floor of the house ransacked and that only jewellery and cash had been taken.

They believe that Kam was killed around 4pm.

A post-mortem showed that Kam suffered broken ribs and sustained injuries to the neck.

Based on the wounds, scars and bruises, it is believed that the woman might have fought back and that caused her attackers to beat her up before strangling her.

It is believed that Kam was targeted as she usually did gardening in her house compound in the evening.

A neighbour heard sounds of knocking coming from Kam’s house, but did not think much of it, believing it was renovation work being carried out there.
