GEORGE TOWN: DAP is prepared to take criticisms from members but will not tolerate those out to subvert the party, said its chairman Karpal Singh.

He said the party could not face a situation where there are traitors within.

“Like recently, if anything goes wrong, party members can bring it to the party channel and not to the public, especially to the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

"The RoS was being instigated by our own party members who even went to the extent of having this party deregistered.

“Any subversion of the party by anyone from now on will be dealt with. Enough is enough. As the DAP chairman, I hope the message will be taken seriously.

“Any open attacks on the party will not be tolerated anymore but criticism, yes,” he said in his speech during the state DAP convention at Georgetown City Hotel in Burmah Road.

Karpal’s speech was received with thunderous applause from the delegates.

On another matter, Karpal said he was disgusted by the statement of former Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman, who reportedly said that the redelineation exercise carried out was meant to ensure that the Malays would still be in power.

“This kind of statement must be seen as a threat. For an official who was former chairman of the EC to make such a statement, the prime minister should look at it seriously. If what was stated is the truth, then something must be done.

“We are now in the midst of election delineation exercise. I hope this will not be a similar formulae used as what had been said by Abdul Rashid.

“We must aspire towards one-person-one-vote. There must be logic and reason in the delineation exercise being carried out now. These are issues which we have to address effectively,” he said.
