High Court increases punishment for family members who smothered toddler to death

GEORGE TOWN: A High Court here set aside a lower court’s sentencing imposed on four family members who caused a toddler’s death during an exorcism ritual last year.

High Court Justice Zamani Abdul Rahim, who allowed the prosecution’s appeal against the inadequacy of the sentence, ordered the girl’s parents Chua Seng Ban and Lim She Lee, both 36, and her uncle Chua Seng Hoo, 30, be jailed for a year effective from Friday.
